Kirkwood
DeKalb County | 30317
Kirkwood, first developed as a streetcar suburb, is a lively residential neighborhood with a thriving business district, abundant park space, and easy access to major thoroughfares which provides excellent mobility for those who call this neighborhood home.
The changes occurring at historic Pratt-Pullman Yard is one of Atlanta’s newest and most exciting developments. On the site of what was once a train repair depot in the early 1900s, a series of structures has served as a backdrop for a number of movie productions such as the Hunger Games. The property was purchased in 2017 and is currently undergoing a massive renovation to become a “creative city,” and these days you can experience one-of-a-kind immersive art experiences such as Imagine Picasso, where visitors will be able to walk through historic buildings that are transformed by projections of the artists’ most famous works.
Kirkwood is also home to five of Atlanta’s city parks and greenspaces, such as Coan Park and the Wylde Center’s Hawk Hollow Garden. Many of the homes in Kirkwood are historic bungalows and craftsman style homes mixed in with modern construction. The retail district includes several restaurants and shops including Elmyriachi, Le Petit Marche, and Kirkyard Public House.
A number of festivals bring neighbors and visitors to the streets of Kirkwood, such as the Kirkwood Spring Fling, the Kirkwood Wine Stroll, the Kirkwood Family Find, Kirkwood Home For the Holidays, and B*ATL which commemorates the area’s role as the geographic starting point of the Battle of Atlanta.
